Encounter Florida's Coastal Wildlife by Kayak

Our wildlife eco-tour launches from Big Hickory Island and takes you deep into the Estero Bay Aquatic Preserve — Florida's first designated aquatic preserve and a thriving habitat for hundreds of species. A resident population of roughly 200 bottlenose dolphins lives in these waters year-round, making sightings extremely reliable on virtually every tour. The quiet approach of a kayak lets you get remarkably close to wildlife without disturbing them, which is the biggest advantage of paddling over motorized boat tours.

West Indian manatees frequent the warm, shallow waters of Estero Bay from April through October, with peak sightings from June through August when water temperatures are warmest and seagrass beds are lush. During peak season, it is common to encounter groups of manatees grazing in water barely two feet deep. Our guides maintain the distance mandated by federal regulations and educate guests on responsible wildlife viewing. Year-round, the bay supports an incredible diversity of wading birds — roseate spoonbills, great blue herons, ospreys, brown pelicans, snowy egrets, and dozens of migratory species during the cooler months.

Every wildlife tour is tailored to current conditions. Guides Mike, Buzz, Nick, and Ethan check tide charts, water temperature, and recent sighting reports before selecting the day's route. This adaptive approach — developed since Michael Furman founded MCE in 2023 — ensures the best possible wildlife viewing regardless of the season. All equipment, safety briefing, and expert naturalist interpretation are included in the price.
